Reddit is jumping in on NFTs. The social media platform has unveiled ‘CryptoSnoos’, 1-of-1 NFTs for the platform built on ethereum. Reddit has previously partnered with the Ethereum Foundation to bring the cryptocurrency subreddit their own native crypto, ‘Moons’.

The NFTs, dubbed “CryptoSnoos,” are a Reddit collection that depicts the site’s extraterrestrial mascot Snoo. Snoo began as a doodle, but after a few iterations, he became Reddit’s alien mascot. Three CryptoSnoos with the “Legendary” tag, which means one of a kind, are currently up for auction on Reddit.

The Original Block NFT is created with Reddit's characteristic Snoo caricature. It is associated with the early days of Reddit and Reddit culture because of its resemblance to the original version of Snoo, said Reddit. The Helium NFT is associated with the contemporary art movement because of its reference to popular culture and everyday objects that are blue and sparkle, according to Reddit. The Snooprematic NFT, on the other hand, is made up of geometric forms such as squares, circles, and rectangles presented in an array of colors.

The highest offering of the NFT Original Block is wrapped ether (wETH), equivalent to US$2,000; for Helium, it is 1 wETH (US$ 1.95 thousand); and, for Snooprematic, it is 0.58 wETH ($1,100).

Snoos utilize ethereum’s ERC-721 contracts and are hosted with IPFS as well. At present time, they are only supported on Reddit’s desktop version, with the NFT experience not yet being built for mobile optimization. Additionally, there are limited details to date on when more CryptoSnoos will be released. Bidding for the first three Snoos closes on July 1.

After all, was said and done, 22 distinct blockchain projects had filed proposals. The Ethereum Foundation then teamed with Reddit earlier this year to help expedite efforts on scaling and building the technology required to launch large-scale applications like Community Points on Ethereum.
